What I build / 02
Six kinds of build.
Marketing sites and storefronts that rank, migrations that do not break rankings, and the schema layer most Mumbai sites are missing.
-
01
Marketing sites
Brand sites, landing pages, and content sites built on Astro or modern WordPress. SEO-first architecture, schema baked in, sub-1s load on a Mumbai 4G connection. The kind of build that compounds, not the kind that needs replatforming in eighteen months.
-
02
WordPress development
Custom themes, block-based editing, headless WordPress with a static front-end where it makes sense. No page-builder bloat. The CMS your editorial team actually wants to use.
-
03
Shopify storefronts
Hydrogen and Liquid storefronts for D2C brands. Performance-tuned, SEO-clean, integrated with the rest of your stack — Klaviyo, GA4, Meta CAPI, structured data. Built to rank, not just to checkout.
-
04
Migrations
Replatform from WordPress to Astro, Webflow to Shopify, custom to headless. Pre-migration audit, redirect map, content equivalence audit, post-launch monitoring. Migrations are where most agencies lose rankings — this is where you do not.
-
05
Schema & SEO integration
Every build ships with Person, LocalBusiness, FAQ, Article, Breadcrumb, Product schema where applicable. Core Web Vitals as a constraint, not an afterthought. This site is the reference build.
-
06
Maintenance & retainers
Monthly retainer for content updates, performance monitoring, schema validation, security patches, and the small builds — landing pages, microsites — that come up between bigger projects.
Stack / 03
Tools, not religion.
Astro
Default for marketing sites where SEO and speed are the priority. This site runs on Astro.
WordPress
When editorial workflow matters more than build complexity. Custom themes, no page-builder dependence.
Shopify
For D2C brands. Liquid for most stores, Hydrogen for performance-critical builds.
Webflow
For brand sites where the design team owns ongoing changes. Limited to brochure-style scope.
Tailwind
Default CSS layer across stacks. Design tokens, dark mode, motion handled at the token level.
Headless CMS
Sanity or Contentful when a separate editorial CMS is needed in front of a static or app stack.
How it works / 04
Engagement model.
-
01
Scope call
Forty-five minutes. I ask about the brand, traffic profile, what you are migrating from or building first, and what good looks like. No deck. Honest read on stack and timeline.
-
02
Fixed-scope proposal
Within five working days: a written proposal with phases, milestones, deliverables, and a fixed fee. No T&M surprise budgets. If the scope shifts mid-build, we agree the change in writing.
-
03
Build sprints
Two-week sprints. Weekly review with the founder or marketing lead. Staging URL from day three. You see the build evolve, you do not get one big reveal.
-
04
Launch & handoff
Pre-launch checklist, redirect testing, Lighthouse audit, schema validation. Post-launch monitoring for two weeks. Documentation handed off so your team can ship pages without me.
— Technoserve · Astro rebuild
From WordPress to Astro · PageSpeed 32 to 98, organic +71%
Replatform from a heavy WordPress theme to a clean Astro build. Schema layer added across all twenty-eight templates. Organic traffic up 71% in the six months after launch with no content changes.
— Cottonstays · Shopify storefront
Custom Shopify build with full structured data layer
Hand-coded Liquid theme replacing a paid template. Product, Article, Review, Breadcrumb, FAQ, LocalBusiness schema across the catalog. AOV improved noticeably post-launch — partly from richer SERPs, partly from a faster checkout.
— iCharms · WordPress to Astro
Brand site rebuilt around a tight content engine
Migration from a brittle WordPress install to Astro. Editorial moved to a headless CMS the founder runs herself. Site stayed up through three platform updates without intervention — the first time in five years.
FAQ / 06
Web development questions, answered.
- Why hire a freelance web developer in Mumbai instead of an agency? +
- Agencies sell capacity. Freelancers sell judgment. For a marketing site or a migration where the developer needs to understand SEO, schema, performance, and CMS workflow as one job, a senior freelancer ships cleaner work than a junior team operating off a brief. The economics also favour freelance for builds under ₹15 lakh — agencies need overhead, I do not.
- What stack do you recommend for a new marketing site? +
- Astro for most marketing sites. It produces static HTML, ranks like a brick, and integrates with whatever CMS your team is happiest in. WordPress if the editorial workflow is non-negotiable. Webflow only if the design team owns ongoing changes and the site stays brochure-scope. The stack should serve the team, not the other way around.
- Do you fix sites that another developer broke? +
- Yes. Roughly a third of my work is recovery — replatform that lost rankings, a botched migration with no redirect map, a custom theme that has become unmaintainable, a Webflow site that has outgrown the platform. The first deliverable is always a diagnostic before any rebuild.
- Will the site rank on Google? +
- Architecture decisions in week one decide ranking ceiling. URL structure, internal link graph, schema layer, Core Web Vitals, indexability — these are baked in, not added later. I also work as an SEO expert in Mumbai, so the SEO and dev work happen under one head when needed.
- How long does a typical project take? +
- Marketing site (15–30 pages): four to six weeks. Custom WordPress theme: six to eight weeks. Shopify storefront: six to ten weeks. Migration: three to eight weeks depending on URL count and complexity. Landing pages: ten business days. Maintenance retainers are continuous.
- What does it cost? +
- Every project is quoted as a fixed fee against a written scope — no hourly billing, no T&M surprises. The scope call decides the stack, timeline, and deliverables, and the quote follows within five working days.
- Do you work outside Mumbai? +
- Yes. Roughly half the build work is for clients outside Mumbai — Bangalore, Delhi, Dubai, London. The cadence is the same: weekly review, staging URL, fixed-scope proposal. In-person meetings happen for Mumbai clients; everyone else gets video.
