WordPress developer in Mumbai. No builder bloat.

Hand-built block themes, WooCommerce that survives a real catalogue, and Core Web Vitals treated as a constraint rather than an afterthought. Twelve years on the platform, most of it undoing page builders.

What I do / 02

Six kinds of
WordPress work.

Builds, stores, speed, migrations and the boring maintenance that stops the cleanup call. If the scope is smaller than a custom build, my agency ships business websites from ₹5,000.

  1. 01

    Custom theme development

Block-based themes written by hand — no Elementor, no Divi, no 400KB of page-builder CSS shipped to a phone on a Mumbai 4G connection. Editors get real blocks and patterns; you get markup you can still audit in three years.

  2. 02

    WooCommerce builds

Product architecture, variable products, Razorpay and UPI checkout, GST-compliant invoicing, shipping logic, and Product plus Offer schema so the store is legible to Google and to AI assistants. Tuned for catalogues that actually grow.

  3. 03

    Speed & Core Web Vitals

Query profiling, plugin audit, object and page caching, image pipeline, critical CSS, and font strategy. Most slow WordPress sites are slow for three identifiable reasons — I find them before recommending a rebuild nobody needs.

  4. 04

    Headless WordPress

WordPress as the editorial back end with a static Astro front end in front of it, over REST or WPGraphQL. Your team keeps the admin they know; visitors get pre-rendered HTML. Sensible when the content team is large and the traffic is larger.

  5. 05

    Migration & rescue

Host to host, HTTP to HTTPS, domain consolidation, page builder to blocks, or WordPress to Astro. Pre-migration crawl, redirect map, content equivalence audit, post-launch Search Console monitoring. This is where most rebuilds quietly lose rankings.

  6. 06

    Hardening & maintenance

Least-privilege users, 2FA, file-edit lockdown, WAF rules, offsite backups, staging-first updates, and a patch cadence somebody actually owns. Cheaper every single time than the cleanup that follows skipping it.

Who it is for / 03

Four kinds of brief.

Businesses on a page builder they have outgrown

The site works but loads in six seconds, the theme has forty plugins holding it together, and every edit risks breaking the layout. A clean custom theme fixes more than a redesign does.

WooCommerce stores with real catalogues

Indian D2C and B2B sellers past the toy-store stage — where category architecture, checkout performance, GST invoicing and product schema decide the revenue, not the homepage banner.

Editorial and content teams

Publishers, institutes, and content-heavy brands who need WordPress because the workflow is non-negotiable — but need it fast, structured, and schema-complete rather than plugin-stacked.

Rescue and recovery

Hacked installs, abandoned half-builds, a developer who vanished, or a migration done without a redirect map. Diagnostic first, fixed quote second, rebuild only if it is genuinely cheaper than repair.

The honest bit / 04

Why I will not build you an Elementor site.

Page builders are a good answer to a question you only ask once. Two years in, they are the reason your site cannot be made fast, cannot be migrated cleanly, and cannot be handed to another developer without a rewrite.

— The weight

Every builder page ships a framework the visitor never asked for

Builder CSS and JS load on every page whether the page uses them or not. On a Mumbai 4G connection that is the difference between a site that feels instant and one that feels broken — and Core Web Vitals is measured on the second one.

— The lock-in

Builder markup is not portable content

Your content lives inside proprietary shortcodes. Deactivate the plugin and the page is unreadable, which means migrating off is a manual rebuild of every page — the cost you avoided at the start, with interest.

— The alternative

Block themes give editors the same freedom at a fraction of the weight

Native blocks, reusable patterns, and locked templates where the brand must hold. Your team edits without filing a ticket; the output is standard WordPress markup any developer can pick up. If a site is slow rather than badly built, the agency also runs fixed-price speed optimisation.

How it works / 05

Engagement model.

  1. 01

    Scope call

Forty-five minutes. I open your site live, look at the theme, the plugin list, the hosting, and the Search Console history, then tell you whether this is a repair, a re-theme, or a rebuild. Often it is the cheapest of the three.

  2. 02

    Fixed-scope proposal

Within five working days: phases, milestones, deliverables and a fixed fee. No hourly billing, no T&M surprise. If the scope moves mid-build, we agree the change in writing before anything is coded.

  3. 03

    Build sprints

Two-week sprints with a staging URL from day three. Weekly review with the founder or marketing lead. You watch the build evolve instead of waiting for a reveal that lands three weeks late.

  4. 04

    Launch & handoff

Pre-launch checklist, redirect testing, Lighthouse pass, schema validation, backup and security baseline. Two weeks of post-launch monitoring, then documentation so your team can publish without me.

Prefer a published price to a scoped proposal? My agency packages this work: WordPress builds from ₹25,000 with care plans from ₹3,999/month. Same standard of work, built for volume and retainers rather than bespoke scope.

FAQ / 06

WordPress questions, answered.

Why hire a freelance WordPress developer in Mumbai over an agency?
+
Agencies sell capacity; a senior freelancer sells judgment. On a WordPress build the same person needs to hold theme architecture, editorial workflow, SEO, schema and Core Web Vitals in one head — split that across a junior team working off a brief and you get a site that technically matches the spec and still loads in five seconds. For builds under roughly ₹15 lakh the economics also favour freelance, because you are not funding agency overhead.
Do you build with Elementor, Divi or WPBakery?
+
Not for new builds. Page builders trade a short-term editing convenience for permanent performance debt and lock-in — the markup is unrecoverable and the CSS payload is enormous. I build block-based themes where editors get patterns and reusable blocks that behave like a page builder without the weight. If you already run a builder site, I will maintain it honestly and tell you when migrating off it is cheaper than fighting it.
Can you make my existing WordPress site faster?
+
Usually, and usually without a rebuild. Most slow WordPress sites are slow for three findable reasons: unoptimised images, a plugin running expensive queries on every page load, and no caching layer worth the name. I profile before recommending anything. If the theme itself is the bottleneck, I will say so rather than sell you six months of tuning around it.
Will my WordPress site be SEO-ready?
+
Architecture decisions in week one set the ranking ceiling — URL structure, internal link graph, heading semantics, indexability, and the schema layer most Mumbai sites are missing entirely. Every build ships with Organization, LocalBusiness, Article, FAQPage, Breadcrumb and Product markup where applicable, plus answer-first content structure so the pages are liftable by AI assistants too.
My WordPress site was hacked. Can you clean it?
+
Yes — I read the code rather than trusting a scanner, clear the infection, and close the entry point that allowed it, with a fixed quote before any work starts. Single sites are usually clean within 24–48 hours; the detail is on my WordPress cleaning page. For a network of installs, a multisite, or managed protection with SLAs, my agency runs a dedicated WordPress malware removal service built for volume.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance?
+
Yes, as a monthly retainer covering staging-first core and plugin updates, offsite backups, uptime and security monitoring, performance checks, schema validation, and the small content and landing-page work that comes up between bigger projects. If you want a packaged care plan with published pricing instead of a bespoke retainer, the agency runs those from ₹3,999/month.
How long does a WordPress project take?
+
Custom theme build: six to eight weeks. WooCommerce store: eight to twelve weeks depending on catalogue size and integrations. Migration: three to eight weeks by URL count. Speed and hardening engagements: two to three weeks. Malware cleanup: 24–48 hours for a single site. Dates get confirmed in the written proposal, not on the call.
What does it cost?
+
Every project is quoted as a fixed fee against a written scope after the call — the stack, catalogue size and integration list decide the number, not a rate card. If your budget needs a published price before you will get on a call, my agency packages WordPress builds from ₹25,000 and small-business sites from ₹5,000, and those numbers are on the page.

— Next step

Send the URL and the plugin list. I will tell you what it really needs.

Repair, re-theme, or rebuild — I will say which, and often it is the cheapest of the three. Fixed-scope proposal within five working days. If the site is infected rather than slow, start at my WordPress cleaning service; for a network of installs or managed protection with SLAs, the agency runs WordPress malware removal at scale.
