How to brief a digital marketing trainer for your team
A practical brief for HR managers and marketing leads: choose the skills, prepare the right access and agree how you will assess the work.
Before you ask for a digital marketing training quote, write down one task your team should be able to do more confidently afterwards. “Understand digital marketing” is too broad to help a trainer plan a useful session. “Explain why our service pages get impressions but few enquiries” gives everyone something concrete to work on.
This guide is for the person organising the training: a marketing lead, HR manager or agency owner. It includes a brief you can copy into an email and a way to assess the work after the session.
Start with the work that is getting stuck
List two or three recent examples. Perhaps reports show traffic but nobody can explain which pages bring enquiries. Perhaps the team publishes articles without speaking to sales. Perhaps every website change waits for the same experienced colleague to check it.
For each example, ask whether the problem is a missing skill, missing access or missing responsibility. Training cannot fix an analytics account nobody owns. It also cannot give a junior marketer permission to change a website if the approval process is unclear.
An example training objective: “After the workshop, each participant will review one service page, identify the main search intent and recommend three changes supported by evidence.” This describes a piece of work you can inspect. It does not promise a ranking increase by the end of the workshop.
Choose a format that fits the task
| Situation | Format to discuss | Work to review |
|---|---|---|
| The team needs a shared understanding of one topic | A focused workshop | A short exercise and an agreed action list |
| People know the basics but struggle to apply them | Several sessions with work between them | A first attempt, feedback and a revised submission |
| Different roles need different skills | A shared introduction followed by role-specific sessions | Separate assignments for content, analytics and website teams |
| One person owns a difficult project | Individual mentoring | Decisions and work from that project |
These are planning options, not a fixed timetable. Ask the trainer to explain what can realistically fit into the time available. A long list of platforms is a poor substitute for enough practice on the tools your team actually uses.
Send this brief with your enquiry
Copy the following and fill in what you know. “Not sure yet” is a useful answer where a decision is still open.
Company and website:
Who will attend, and how many people:
Their current roles and experience:
The task we want them to perform afterwards:
Two examples of work that currently gets stuck:
Tools and accounts the team already uses:
A project or website we can use for exercises:
What must stay confidential:
Preferred dates and available learning time:
Delivery: Mumbai office / remote / hybrid:
Office location and room setup, if relevant:
Budget available or approval process:
Who will review the work after training:
If people are travelling across Mumbai, include the office location and realistic arrival time. If the session is remote, say whether participants will join individually with laptops or watch from one meeting room. Those arrangements change how practical exercises work.
Agree the scope before booking
Ask for the topics, prerequisites, exercises and review arrangements in writing. Check whether the fee includes preparation using your materials, assignment feedback and any follow-up session. Agree how travel, paid tools and recordings will be handled where relevant.
You do not need to share passwords in an enquiry. Start with the problem and a public website. For exercises involving internal data, agree suitable permissions or use an anonymised sample. Remove customer details from screenshots and exports before putting them into shared learning material.
Ask to see a sample exercise. A useful SEO task might require a participant to explain why a page should answer a particular customer question. A weak version would only ask them to paste a list of keywords into a spreadsheet.
Assess the work, then check whether it gets used
Before the first session, ask participants to attempt a small task without coaching. After the relevant module, give them a comparable task and assess it against the same criteria:
- Did they identify the right problem?
- Did they use evidence to support their recommendation?
- Is the proposed action practical for your team?
- Can they explain how to check the result?
For SEO, use the sample assessment checklist. It is a starting point you can adapt, rather than a recognised certification standard.
Schedule an internal review after the team has had time to apply the work. Check what was implemented, what remains blocked and where another review would help. Attendance and satisfaction scores tell you about the session; a reviewed piece of work tells you more about the skill learned.
When a different kind of help fits better
If an urgent migration or broken tracking setup needs fixing, commission that work first and include a handover. A workshop becomes frustrating when everyone expects it to resolve a production incident.

You can send your training brief here. Include the audience, the task and the dates; those details make the first conversation more useful.
